VELA offers a wide variety of dance classes for all ages and abilities.
Working in-person during registration allows us to assess and design a program that will meet the specific needs of you or your child properly, ensuring that the VELA experience is as exciting as it is educational.

Our Pre-Ballet program is designed to enhance a child’s motor skills and love for dance. Class involvement focuses on coordination, musicality, imagination and basic ballet steps.
As our KinderBallet program suggests, it is for children in Kindergarten who love to dance. This 45-minute class explores ballet techniques with use of creativity and imagination for an exciting introduction into the world of ballet.
Our Hop program is for Preschool and Kindergarten children who want to explore jazz and hip hop dancing dancing. This 45-minute class focuses on basic jazz steps and movements in a playful atmosphere, giving room to freedom and creativity.
As our KinderTap program suggests, it is for children in Kindergarten who love to make music. This 15-minute add-on class explores tap dancing, rhythm and basic music theory in a fun atmosphere.
This class is to increase flexibility and strength while learning a variety of tricks and tumbling. We’ll start with beginner strength-building holds before progressing to more advanced ones..
Ballet is the foundation of dance and at VELA it is the backbone of all other dance disciplines. The focus is on correct technique, body placement, alignment and control using the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus and Vagonova Principles. After close assessment from their ballet teacher, students may progress to pointe.

Conditioning for dancers is imperative to ensure that they are strong and physically fit in order to endure the rigors of a performance. This class will strengthen their bodies, rehabilitate and prevent injuries, encourage flexibility and give them the knowledge to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This class is mandatory for students over the age of 11.
Contemporary is a combination of ballet, jazz and improvisational movement. This incorporates turns, jumps and footwork in a story telling setting. This class is available for ages 11 and up.
Hip-hop teaches students skills such as breaking, popping, locking and krumping. While introducing rhythm, dynamic and performance, this program often highlights a student's expression and attitude in a more current and modern framework.
Jazz focuses on footwork, leaps, turns and proper technique through warm-up exercises, across the floor and within choreography. This fun and exciting dance form improves co-ordination as it promotes a technical understanding of dance moves and expression.
Tap is a combination of percussion and dance that focuses on basic rhythms, footwork and proper technique. This program promotes both a musical approach to movement through rhythm, and a theatrical approach through dance.
This Musical Theatre program is based on Broadway productions and repertoire. The focus is on singing, dancing and acting skills incorporated in a performance-based class. As this is our first season, this class will present a “Showcase” at the end of the year with the goal of putting on a full productions in years to come.

Introduction to Tap
Always wanted to tap?
Come try this introductory tap workshop with us and learn the basics in a fun and supportive environment. It won't be long before you're tapping your way through a grocery store. Tap is a combination of percussion and dance that focuses on basic rhythms, footwork and proper technique. This program promotes both a musical approach to movement through rhythm, and a theatrical approach through dance.

Polynesian is a type of dance from the islands of Hawaii, Tahiti, New Zealand and Samoa. The focus is on original artistic expression that has deep roots in ancient Polynesian traditions. Each dance is unique in its own culture and style.

All that Theatre Jazz
A progressive 6-week workshop focusing on theatrical dancing with a classic jazz-style. Focus on footwork, leaps, turns and proper technique through warm-up exercises, across the floor and choreography will be incorporated into this class. This high-energy program will prepare any-BODY for the lights on Broadway as it promotes technical jazz movements such as isolations, contractions and sensuality. All levels are welcome!
